SUMMIT IS NOW ONE MONTH AWAY! Can’t wait to see everyone there!
It is our pleasure to invite you to participate in the annual SCPASA Summit, Balikbayan: Putting Life Together in Care Packages for the Future, on February 20, 2009 at the University of Southern California.
This year’s theme of “Balikbayan” focuses on life in the real world and how students can stay involved in the Filipino American community after leaving their respective Filipino Student Organizations. When thinking of Balikbayan, we think of the boxes frequently filled with things to help sustain family and friends back in the Philippines. We want our attendees to be able to take away things for their own Balikbayan boxes to help them sustain their involvement in the Filipino American community.
We are currently looking for individuals who are interested in facilitating various workshops as well as Filipino Americans in various sectors/fields to serve speak on their experiences to students who are interested in their respective occupations. Past workshops have revolved around the Filipino American identity, Filipino cultural dances, Baybayin, Immigration reform, etc.
Summit 2010 will be SCPASA’s third annual summit and is forecasted to have the highest number of attendees from not only Southern California but from Northern California as well as Nevada. If you would like to get involved, please contact the Programming Director, Ben Biscocho, at b.biscocho@gmail.com or the Chair, Leah Jurilla, at lj.jurilla@gmail.com.
Whether as a facilitator or an attendee, we hope to see you at Summit! Visit us at scpasa.wordpress.com or email us at socalpasa@gmail.com for general questions and more information. Salamat!
